Camino day 5

We started off on the final trek in the middle of a down pour

It was our shortest walk of the 5 day Camino and we were all motivated to finish.

From our B&B it was a very steep and long hill. We were unsure if we were going the right way, our bodies hurt, our feet were blistered, and we were all irritable. Once we found the shells and arrows again, ensuring that we were following the correct path, our moods lightened and we focused on walking the final 5 miles to the cathedral.

Though we had mostly walked at our own pace for the first 4 days, we decided to stay close for our final day so that we would all arrive at the cathedral together. Here we are at a coffee stop about half way.

Once we saw the steeples of the cathedral and entered the city of Santiago everyone was excited.

Our final stop was at a little church just a couple of blocks from the cathedral so we could stamp our Camino passports.

Here’s a video of us arriving at the cathedral! The cathedral is amazing- enormous, intricate, awe inspiring. Like the other ancient cathedrals we’ve visited we find ourselves in disbelief about how something so grand could be built hundreds of years ago.

The rest of the day was spent with hot showers, rests, naps, shopping, and eating a delicious lunch and dinner in Santiago. Also, we *might* have eaten gelato twice 😊.

  1. Congratulations! What an achievement. In addition to the satisfaction of completing the journey, I hope it was healing for all of you. Special kudos to Eliza. Hard to believe she was able to even contemplate such a trek, much less complete it.
