For me, today was the best camino day yet. Yesterday was brutal. After starting off with a 15 mile day, having day two as the steepest incline of the journey was rough. Today the route was much flatter and the 12 miles distance was much more manageable.

Some fun things about today-

Dan, Eliza, Carrie and I stopped in a little village for coffees and pastries.

We saw a mother cat and her tiny baby kittens playing on the roof of a barn.

And more of a relief than actual fun, I found a pharmacy with a whole display of blister bandaids and I bought some of every kind. The pharmacist looked at my rash and sold me some cream that will hopefully take care of it.

On this pilgrimage I’ve been so incredibly proud of Claire and Eliza.

When most of us decided that 12 miles was plenty for today, Claire and Lora, one of the other pilgrims traveling with us, decided they wanted to walk the remaining 8 miles to the town we’re staying in tonight. The rest of us took a taxi. They made it and went a total of 21 miles today! Claire is positive and encouraging to everyone.

Eliza has maintained a positive attitude and is working so much harder than the rest of us to complete the Camino. Hypermobility syndrome causes her to have a great deal of joint pain on a daily basis. Only 6 years ago she she couldn’t have attempted something like this before her corrective surgeries. On this trip she is balancing pushing towards her goal with listening to her body to make sure she is safe. Each year Eliza celebrates the birthday of her legs on the anniversary of her femoral derotation surgery in January. She has reminded us on this trip that her legs are just 6 years old 😊.

Once again we’re staying in a beautiful B&B tonight. Tomorrow will be another challenging day, but it will bring us closer to Santiago. Claire saw a sign today with a message I appreciate- your Camino doesn’t end when you reach Santiago. Hopefully we’ll all take this experience with us after we’re home.
